The Opportunity

Reporting to the Vice President, Micro Insurance Solutions, and working closely with business leaders and peers support business and program opportunities of various commercial product lines in Canada focused on digital distribution. It will require a creative, solutions-based approach to program underwriting, and high customer service for our broker partners.

What You Will Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Underwrite, quote and issue multi-line contractors' property risks to support TMCan’s Micro and SME Insurance initiative.
  • Identify and evaluate exposures, determine the appropriate coverage, terms and conditions, limits, pricing, facultative reinsurance requirements, and negotiate with brokers on all new and renewal business.
  • Building insurance wordings and agreements
  • Build, monitor and audit new and existing commercial programs
  • Underwrite and audit existing business and renewals.
  • Ensuring all files are well documented and comply with departmental requirements
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with reinsurers, brokers, clients and partners
  • Market presentations to brokers and relationship management to help develop business
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across business lines for multi-line approach
  • Grow target business and maintain profitability
  • Ongoing learning and updating on changes in marketplace, insurance trends

Who You Are

You have direct experience in a commercial underwriting role. You are team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a consensus culture with an emphasis on collaboration. You are a self-starter who is excited by the opportunity to jump right in and can come up to speed quickly. You are comfortable working on a lean team and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done.

Our new Underwriter- Micro Commercial will have:

  • A university degree or college diploma
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • CIP or FCIP
  • Capability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capability managing multiple priorities simultaneously to meet deadlines and drive for results.
  • A customer focused mindset
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative environment.
  • Aptitude to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required
